Ziggy's Journey -
Ziggy’s story is a compelling example of how support from LEAP in Plymouth helps young individuals overcome barriers into employment. Through a holistic, person-centred approach, Eat That Frog supported Ziggy’s journey from not knowing where to turn to having multiple opportunities available.
Background/Reason for Joining Eat That Frog
Ziggy joined Eat That Frog’s LEAP programme looking for guidance on what direction to take next in his life. He came with plenty of enthusiasm and several ideas for his future including becoming an electrician and, one day, running his own pub, but wasn’t sure how to turn these ambitions into achievable steps. He recognised that he needed support to understand his options, build confidence, and create a clear pathway towards his goals.

Through the LEAP programme, Ziggy worked closely with his tutor and careers advisor to explore each of his aspirations in detail. Together, they researched local training routes, apprenticeships and qualification requirements. Ziggy discovered two promising apprenticeship opportunities with City College Plymouth and Focus Training and, while waiting for the next intake, identified a third option, an Electrician Bootcamp at Focus Training. With encouragement from the LEAP team, he applied successfully and is due to start in February 2026.
In addition, after discussions with his careers advisor, Ziggy enrolled on a Leadership and Management programme to strengthen his confidence in leading teams a key skill for running his own pub. The team also supported him to research alcohol licensing and the process of taking on a pub lease. By the end of the programme, an exciting opportunity had arisen for Ziggy to potentially manage a village pub in Somerset next summer. The LEAP team has since helped him identify local training providers in Somerset so he can continue developing his electrician skills alongside this new venture.
Outcome / Qualifications gained
Ziggy’s time with Eat That Frog has been marked by commitment, energy and drive. His attendance and participation throughout the programme have been exceptional, taking part in every project and opportunity offered, from work experience at Abbey Hall to supporting the Baton of Hope event in Torbay. He has also engaged with local employers and training providers at careers fairs, even exploring the idea of becoming a part-time firefighter.
Ziggy leaves the LEAP programme with a clear sense of direction, newfound confidence, and several exciting pathways ahead of him. His positivity and determination have been an inspiration to his peers and tutors alike, and everyone at Eat That Frog wishes him continued success as he takes the next leap forward in his journey.
Measurable Outcomes
- Education & Training Progression Successfully applied for two apprenticeships (City College Plymouth and Focus Training).
