Lucas's Journey -

Background/Reason for Joining Eat That Frog

Lucas joined Eat That Frog as he required 1:1 support to meet his specific needs. He finds socialising with peers challenging, experiences difficulties with motor skills and personal safety, and struggles with retaining information. His primary goal was to improve his Maths and English skills while working towards a vocational qualification that would help him gain employment in the future. Lucas aspired to secure a job in retail or a role focused on helping others.

Support given by Eat That Frog

To help Lucas achieve his goals, Eat That Frog created a bespoke curriculum tailored to his needs. He participated in Maths, English, Vocational, Pastoral, and Employability sessions, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience to support his transition into adulthood.

Lucas was supported in developing essential life skills, such as cooking and cleaning, while also receiving targeted assistance in improving his literacy and numeracy. Additionally, he gained valuable work experience, including placements in charity shops and working on reception at Eat That Frog, where he learned skills such as conducting safety checks and assisting with stocking shelves.

Beyond academics and employment skills, Lucas engaged in pastoral sessions covering topics such as memory, Prevent, consent, and social media safety. He also participated in kitchen sessions to learn how to prepare simple meals and took part in group activities, including games, to develop his social and motor skills. Independent travel training was also incorporated into his learning, helping him gain confidence in using public transport and improving his awareness of personal safety.

Outcome / Qualifications gained

Lucas has grown in confidence, independence, and employability skills during his time at Eat That Frog. His work experience placements have provided him with practical skills and an understanding of workplace expectations. His progress in both social and academic areas has helped him become more prepared for future employment.

Recently, Lucas visited Project Search to explore the possibility of a supported internship at Derriford Hospital. He found this opportunity particularly interesting and has been invited to apply—marking an exciting next step in his journey towards employment.
