Jum's Journey -
Background/Reason for Joining Eat That Frog
Jum joined Eat That Frog after years of struggling with confidence in maths. She described having a major fear of the subject, feeling confused and unsure of even the most basic mathematical terminology and methods. Her anxiety around numbers had begun to affect her everyday life — particularly when helping her son, who is in Year 5, with his homework. Determined to make a change, Jum decided to take the first step and enrol on Eat That Frog’s Multiply programme.
Support given by Eat That Frog
Jum began with an initial assessment to understand her starting point and identify any gaps in her knowledge. From there, she was given access to one-to-one tutor support, using BKSB resources and tailored lessons designed around her individual pace and confidence level. Her tutors, Nick and Carol, worked closely with her to ensure she always felt supported — even offering flexible arrangements when she needed to miss a session.
Jum appreciated the patience, encouragement and clear explanations she received throughout her learning journey, which helped her to overcome her long-standing fears and start viewing maths in a new, positive way.
Outcome / Qualifications gained
By the end of her Multiply programme, Jum’s confidence had grown immensely.
She now feels comfortable helping her son with his homework and can even have constructive conversations with his teachers about his progress. Her improved understanding of maths has not only empowered her in daily life but has also inspired her to continue learning. Jum then progressed onto a Functional Skills course at Level 2 with Learn Devon! A remarkable achievement given where she started. She describes enrolling on the Multiply programme at Eat That Frog as “one of the best decisions in my learning journey.”
