Jake's Journey -
Background/Reason for Joining Eat That Frog
Jake joined Eat That Frog to develop his communication and social skills in a small and supportive setting, helping to build his confidence and learn strategies to manage his emotions, especially in social situations.
He also needed support in preparing for adulthood, including travel training and work experience, while working towards his Vocational qualifications and Functional Skills Maths.
Support given by Eat That Frog
We designed a programme that enabled Jake to gradually build his self-esteem and feel a sense of belonging at ETF. Through gentle encouragement, he stepped outside of his comfort zone, gained work experience, improved social interactions, and developed vital independent living and practical skills.
His vocational units focused on everyday life skills, particularly hands-on tasks that helped strengthen his fine motor skills and coordination. Alongside this, Jake worked towards achieving his Functional Skills Maths qualification.
Outcome / Qualifications gained
Jake has grown significantly in confidence and is now much kinder to himself, no longer being as self-deprecating or hard on himself as he was when he first joined. He has developed a strong set of independent living and practical skills, successfully gaining several qualifications. Jake is currently completing his work experience at the Co-op and has set his sights on working part-time in a supermarket once he completes his studies at ETF in July 2025.
