Helen's Journey -

Background/Reason for Joining Eat That Frog

Helen joined Eat That Frog’s Focus Forward programme after experiencing a difficult period in her life. Having been mistreated in her previous job, her confidence and self-esteem had been deeply affected. She wanted to rebuild her sense of self-worth, refocus on her goals, and find a career path that would make her feel fulfilled and proud. Helen hoped that through Focus Forward, she could begin to rebuild her confidence, meet new people, and take positive steps towards a brighter future.

Support given by Eat That Frog

Throughout the Focus Forward programme, Helen received personalised support to help her rediscover her strengths and rebuild her confidence. She engaged fully with group activities, community projects, and event planning sessions — quickly becoming a key part of the group. Helen’s attendance was excellent, and she was always enthusiastic about getting involved.

The team encouraged Helen to explore new learning opportunities and supported her as she enrolled on an Access to Higher Education course in Psychology and Social Science through South Devon College, with a focus on becoming an Assistant Teacher. Helen also began volunteering to gain hands-on experience, applying the skills and self-belief she’d developed during her time with Eat That Frog.

Outcome / Qualifications gained

Helen has made incredible progress, both personally and professionally. She has rebuilt her self-esteem, rediscovered her confidence, and found a renewed sense of purpose. She is now proud of how far she has come and continues to work hard towards achieving her goals — completing her Access course, continuing her volunteering, and actively seeking a secure and rewarding career.

Helen has even set herself a personal goal to have her teeth fixed to further boost her confidence — a symbolic reflection of how determined she is to keep improving and believing in herself. She is now a different person from the one who first walked through our doors: confident, motivated, and full of enthusiasm for the future.
