Digital Skills

Unleash Your Digital Creativity!

Be part of the Digital Revolution

We are in the middle of a second industrial revolution; a period in time where digital literacy and knowhow sit at the very centre of everything we do and who we come in contact with. It is widely acknowledged that there are gaps in the skills required to successfully compete in the local, national and international digital marketplaces and therefore the need to develop digital skills has never been so important.

Become creators of Technology

Our belief is that we should equip and empower young people to become creators of technology rather that consumers of technology. We do this by ensuring our courses and programmes of study are relevant to industry needs, fun to study and facilitate the development of technical skills and creativity.

Digital Technology is Everywhere

It’s hard to think of a part of our life that’s not touched in some way by this subject area.

It is possible for us to develop a portfolio of accredited units that can contribute to your final qualification.

We Fly Drones!

Be Aware That From July 30th...

You won’t be able to fly your drone above 400 feet or within a kilometre of airport boundaries. Anyone who flouts the rules could be charged with “recklessly or negligently acting in a manner likely to endanger an aircraft or any person in an aircraft”, and face an unlimited fine, up to five years in prison, or both.

The UK government recently announced measures that will require owners of drones over a certain weight to register their devices, as well as plans to bring in a test for new owners.

“We are seeing fast growth in the numbers of drones being used, both commercially and for fun,” said Aviation Minister Baroness Sugg.

We Build Robots!

Our robot has been made using a Freenove DIY Quadruped kit. It has 4 legs which are powered by 12 independent servo motors. Each leg has a hip and knee joint which allows it to move on its X axis forwards, backwards, left and right. It can also move its body Z axis up and down and in combination with the X axis, this allows the robot to rotate and tilt its body in any direction. It can be controlled remotely by a PC or mobile device such as a smart phone or tablet using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. After programming the robot to move and crawl, the challenge was to enable it to be autonomous and self-navigate its surroundings. This was achieved using a PING sensor, which is essentially a small radar device that sends out an ultra-high frequency sound beam that reflects off objects, and with some clever programming measures the distance in cm.

Now that our robot is able to go up and down stairs autonomously the next step is for it to begin meaningful work on our behalf.
